Do you have a thing about people calling you boss? Well, you're a boss – so own it! Sadly, most people work just hard enough not to get fired and or just to get paid enough money not to quit.
But do you really have what it takes to be a boss?
In the book, How To Be A Great Boss by Gino Wickman & Rene Boer, the authors highlighted some key points to help you explore your own life and your leadership, as well as things you need to reflect on if you’re really willing to be a great boss and whether you have what it takes.
Being a boss and being a great boss are two different things – because being a great boss takes a lot of conscious effort.
How to Be a Great Boss
The right person in the organization represents your core values. To become a great boss, you also have to ask yourself these 3 questions:
- Do you get it?
Do you understand the huge responsibility you're taking on by having employees and having a team and having so much impact over someone's life? Are you here because of the calling and do you have hope for that? And are you willing to do whatever it takes to do that? Or are you just here just for the fame?
- Do you truly want it?
Do you genuinely desire the job of being a great boss? You might have a bad day or two and that's normal. But the challenges and obstacles should energize you. Do you have the fire in your belly to lead? There's no right or wrong here, neither is there a good or bad. It’s just a matter of whether there is or there isn’t.
- Do you have the capacity?
The 4 types of capacity:
- Emotional capacity
- Intellectual capacity
- Physical capacity
- Time capacity
Everyone's natural default is they have no time. But in reality, they actually have plenty of time. Instead, they’re low on all the other three areas that it's creating a time deficit for them.
