Have you ever experienced getting an email from a client saying they don’t want to work with you anymore?
Or how about a team member who has contributed so much in your company decided it’s time to move on?
Those are hurtful situations and it’s hard not to take it personally.
But it all comes down to making that choice.
It’s a Choice
When a client finds that you’re no longer a good fit, it’s human nature to take it personally, especially if you care deeply about that relationship. It’s really hard, but you just have to take the good that comes out of this.
Love them on the way out as you did on the way in.
It doesn't matter that they have decided to move on. It's a powerful message that helps you keep things in perspective. You've got to choose it for yourself, regardless of how it's reciprocated.
Handle It With Grace
It takes faith to love on the way in and on the way out when there's no guarantee of reciprocity.
It does take faith to choose other people when they don't choose you.
It also takes radical generosity to believe the best first about people and situations. And that's not easy.
Radical generosity has nothing to do with money. But we all have within us the opportunity and the ability to be as generous as we want to be with our time, our energy, and our money.
And once your clients or team members see that you really care for them without expecting any reciprocity, they will still be your biggest advocates and cheerleaders even after they leave.
